Workflow in Healthcare - Software.
There are numerous companies purporting to supply products and
services suitable for providing workflow solutions for the health
domain. Like most such vendors in health, it is difficult to find
products which can interoperate well with other vendor's products.
There are also a number of people and organisations providing or
developing Open Source components of WfMSs. Products have varying
degrees of support for standards such as WPDL, XPDL, ebXML, WfMC
APIs, etc.
Most Workflow software consists of several functional components:-
- Process designer or workflow editor - ususally a graphical
design tool for specifying an organisation's business processes.
- Workflow Engine - an application that implements the Process
Design, coordinates the component activities, services events and
provides notification services.
- Workitem Handler - an application that interacts with the workflow engine
to provide users with worklists for assigning or acquiring
individual items of work.
